A spring made from wire coiled into a helix — the basis of compression, extension and torsion types.
It is the most common spring geometry. Depending on the load direction and end configuration, the same helix can work in compression, extension or torsion.
Flat, disc (Belleville) and leaf springs are not helical — they use other geometries to store energy.
