Solid height

SH
Category: Dimensions & geometry

The length of a compression spring when all coils are fully compressed and touching.

It is the minimum possible length under maximum load. For closed & ground ends it is roughly the wire diameter times the total number of coils (SH ≈ d × Nt).

Free length must exceed the solid height for there to be usable travel.
