Shear modulus

Category: Forces & performance

A material property (G) that measures its stiffness in shear, essential when computing the spring rate.

It appears directly in the spring-rate formula for compression and extension springs. Spring steels have a G around 79,000 MPa; stainless is a little lower, giving slightly softer springs.
