Outer diameter

OD
Category: Dimensions & geometry

The overall width of the spring, measured from the outer edge of one coil to the outer edge of the opposite coil.

It defines the radial space the spring occupies and the bore or pin it fits. The outer diameter equals the mean diameter plus one wire diameter (OD = Dm + d).
