Buckling

Category: Forces & performance

An instability in which a compression spring bends sideways under load, moving off-axis.

It happens in slender springs — long free length relative to the mean diameter. It can be prevented with a guide (inner rod or outer tube) or by reducing the slenderness ratio. The tool warns when buckling is a risk.
